Your library is going digital!

We aren't open during the summer, but we still want you to read! In addition to MyOn.com, the library now has a new eBook & audio book program called MackinVia. You can use it online with any computer, or there is an app available for most phones, tablets and e-readers.

We have added all the Bluebonnet Books that are available in e-book version and there are a lot of other interesting fiction and non-fiction titles! We currently have 68 e-books, 30 audio books and 27 different databases. We will continue to add more next school year!

Current 5th graders - Hernandez also uses MackinVia - so make sure to check ours out this summer!!!

You can "check out" the books just like as if you were here in the library, and the book is available to you for 2 weeks. You can also just read it online without checking it out. You never have to turn it in or go "overdue" - the book just comes back into our database for others to use. You can also place holds. All students have a MackinVia backpack, which will be your portal to all that MackinVia has to offer!

All of our library resource/research databases are also available via MackinVia.

Log onto MackinVia - http://www.mackinvia.com/ or through our library resource page -

Take an AR test right through MackinVia too!!

The logon for students:
Username: s+ID number
Password: birthdate (mmddyyyy)

Read through the student guide on how to use it - http://www.mackin.com/Help/VIA_Help/index.html

Look at it before the end of the school year and come see us in the library with any questions!!!

RRISD Launches New Summer Reading Program!

http://www.roundrockisd.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=32799&pageId=3235259

May 15, 2014 – Students can lose critical skills over the long summer months, but it can be prevented if families encourage reading, educators at Round Rock ISD said.

“Reading is a great way for students to further explore their interests, while also building skills for critical thinking,” Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Carla Amacher said. “We are excited to offer our families some great resources for promoting reading in their homes this summer. We encourage our families to have a plan before summer or early in the summer that continues the learning throughout the summer months.”

Round Rock ISD launched its summer reading program this week, Round Rock ISD Reads, to promote reading for elementary school students. The reading program will include a partnership with the Round Rock Express, which will include special reading nights, a reading log competition and prizes for top performing readers and campus participation.

“We understand the importance of getting involved in our community because we are a neighborhood organization,” said Tim Jackson, director of community relations for the Round Rock Express. “We are excited to work with our local schools to promote learning and reading during these summer months.”

In addition to the prizes, Round Rock ISD is also offering students access to a free electronic reading library, MyOn, which allows families to download e-books to computers, tablets and e-readers. MyOn offers over 5,000 books for all ages at home. MyOn, which also comes as a mobile app, will track reading minutes for students. Librarians will distribute materials to students prior to the end of school with their username, password and log-in information.

Based on the total hours of recorded reading through MyOn ebooks or print books, the top performing schools will receive funding for their libraries, $1,000, $500 and $200 for the first, second and third highest performing schools.

Elementary students will also be eligible for three prize packs that will include family tickets to a Round Rock Express game, merchandise and a special in game experience. To be eligible for any prizes, students will be asked to complete a paper reading log throughout the summer to include any reading, whether that an e-book, magazine, novel or newspaper. Those reading logs will be turned in at the start of school in August.
